Works

The mistake but which mistake? is a children's performance created by the dancers of  Skytali and presented in the theatre of the Athens School of Fine Arts in 2019.

The dancers co-choreographed the piece in a collaborative process that evolved around and challenged the notion of what a"mistake" is since this concept was often brought up by the particpating children in the teaching sessions in primary schools. As a notion deeply embedded within the establised school pedagogy the kids engage with it in their everyday lives and build their meaning-making through such notion.

The piece's movement language was inspired by situations in the classroom and by movement material proposed by the kids themselves. Thus the movement material of the piece was not only co-created by the children but also recognisable by them, which created a strong sense of empowerment and realisation of their dance-ability through their embodied existence and their intention to create. The piece and its movement language was characterized by a grotesque aesthetic and a strong humoristic sense wishing to manifest the place of childrens' movement language in performance as legitimate movement material that can challenge aesthetics and bring playfullness into contemporary dance and the "serious" adulthood.
